Hello everyone! Today I would talk of a complexity that is termed as a no.1 killer in the world. Yes! it is "stroke". Let us commence without wasting a second.
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Let me at first clear that stroke is also known as a brain relapse. It was discovered in the 1660s by a doctor named Jacob Wepfer. Hippocrates, the “father of medicine,” first identified stroke more than 2,400 years ago. He called the condition apoplexy, which is a Greek term that stands for “struck down by violence.”
BRIEF HISTORY
In the decades that followed, medical science continued to make advances concerning the causes, symptoms, and treatment of apoplexy. Jacob Wepfer discovered that something disrupted the blood supply in the brains of people who died from apoplexy. In some of these cases, there was massive bleeding in the brain. In others, the arteries were blocked. After certain developments that followed, now apoplexy is known as cerebrovascular accident or CVA. TYPES OF STROKE
There are 2 types of stroke:-
Ischemic stroke:-
This is the most prevalent type of stroke. It occurs when the brain's blood vessels grow close or blocked, provoking rigorously diminished blood flow (ischemia). Blocked or narrowed blood vessels are caused by fatty deposits that build up in blood vessels or by blood clots or other debris that travel through your bloodstream and lodge in the blood vessels in your brain.
Hemorrhagic stroke:-
Hemorrhagic stroke transpires when a blood vessel in your brain leaks or ruptures. Brain hemorrhages can emerge from many contingencies that affect your blood vessels.
CAUSES
Following are some causes because of which stroke occurs:-
- Blood supply to part of your brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients which precede a clot
- Obesity
- Metabolic syndrome
- Smoking
- High blood pressure and cholesterol level.
- Men tend to be at a higher risk of Stroke after 55.
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Sleep apnea
- Personal family history
- Diabetes
SYMPTOMS AND PREVENTIONS
FOLLOWING ARE THE SYMPTOMS. IF THEY OCCUR,
BE-FAST
B= Balance(You began to lose your balance)
E=Eyes(Your vision blurs and/or vision of one or both the eyes is lost)
F=Face(Your face would begin to look uneven)
A=Arms(your arms began to weaken and there is a pain in there. You are unable to move them)
S=Speech(You find it difficult to speak because you feel your mouth go uneven)
If all these symptoms occur, then it is
T=Time(It is time to get some medical help)
TREATMENTS:-
An IV injection of recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) — also called alteplase (Activase) — is the gold standard treatment for ischemic stroke. An injection of tPA is usually given through a vein in the arm with the first three hours. Sometimes, tPA can be given up to 4.5 hours after stroke symptoms started.
DISEASE THAT PRECEDES STROKE
- Paralysis
- Loss of muscle movement
- Memory loss
- Psychological disorder
- Fits(seldom happen)
PREVENTIONS
Following are some activities that could be applied in daily life to prevent stroke:-
- Decreasing the intake of junk food to lessen the cholesterol and saturated fat in your body.
- Maintaining and checking your blood pressure to ensure that you don't have hypertension.
- Increase the intake of fruits and vegetables.
- Quitting smoking and drinking alcohol.
- Exercising.
- Maintaining Diabetes and Sleep apnea
- Maintaining a healthy weight.
- Avoid illegal drugs such as cocaine.
Medical preventions include Antiplatelet drugs and Anticoagulants.
A stroke is a medical emergency, and prompt treatment is crucial. Early action can reduce brain damage and other complications. These things are a part of life and therefore, we need to learn how to fight them.
Well, friends, so that was it. Hope I provided every crucial point. If any confusions , feel free to ask me in the comments. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. I will write my next blog soon. Till then, bubyeeee.
