Hello there!! Today I will tell everyone about a disaster which, if I won't discuss it today, will be on the news tomorrow! By reading the title, you would be aware that I am going to talk about Acne. Yes! It is the most adverse of the problems which are faced by men and women alike. So let's get started!!
First of all, what is acne?? Acne is a skin ailment that transpires when your hair follicles become obstructed with oil and dead skin spores. It is preceded by blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and open pores. It mostly occurs on the face and its major afflicts are teenagers. There are several factors, like stress, that can contribute to acne. Hormonal changes can contribute to acne too.
It is further classified into 3 types,
Mild Acne
Moderate Acne
Severe Acne
MILD ACNE:- It is the most common acne in people. Acne falls into the "mild" category if you have fewer than 20 whiteheads or blackheads, fewer than 15 inflamed bumps, or fewer than 30 total lesions. It is not dangerous and it refers to having small and minor breakouts of blackheads and whiteheads.
MODERATE ACNE:- If you have 20 to 100 whiteheads or blackheads, 15 to 50 inflamed bumps, or 30 to 125 total lesions, your acne is considered moderate. It is characterized by Papules, Nodules, Pustules, and Comedones. People who have moderate acne have noticeably more acne pimples.
SEVERE ACNE:- The final classification of acne is severe acne. If you have lots of large, painful papules, pustules, nodules, or cysts; you might also have some scarring.
Now following are some types of acne.
Acne Vulgaris:- The common acne which contains Blackheads, Whiteheads, and Pimples. This condition is most common and mostly occurs after puberty. It is found in 90% of adolescents throughout the world and is most common in women.
Cystic Acne:- Cysts are large, pus-filled lesions that look similar to boils. Like nodules, cysts can be painful and should be treated by a dermatologist since they also can scar. People who develop nodules and cysts are usually considered to have a more severe form of acne. It is also linked with another acne known as acne conglobate It is a highly inflammatory disease presenting with Comedones, nodules, abscesses, and draining sinus tracts. This condition generally begins between the ages of 18 and 30. It usually persists for a very long time, and often until the patient is around 40 years old.
Acne fulminans:- is a severe form of skin disease, acne, which can occur after unsuccessful treatment for another form of acne, acne conglobate. This is usually found on the trunk in adolescent males.
Acne excoriée, also known as pickers acne, results when acne lesions are compulsively squeezed and scratched, resulting in scabs and scars. It is seen most commonly in adolescent girls and has been thought to be associated with underlying depression, anxiety, or emotional problems.
Drug-induced acne:- Drug-induced acne, or drug-induced acneiform eruption, is an adverse effect of a series of systemic drugs, such as corticosteroids, and lithium. Usually, topical products such as cosmetics may lead to an acneiform eruption in women, especially in the region of the chin.
Comedonal acne:- Comedones are small flesh-colored acne papules. They usually develop on the forehead and chin. You typically see these papules when you're dealing with acne. Blackheads and whiteheads are the most common forms of comedonal acne. Blackheads have "open" comedones, while whiteheads have "closed" ones.
TREATMENTS:-
Breakouts may occur on isolated parts of the face or body, such as the chin, nose, forehead, or shoulders. It happens in adults and children. It's always best to treat acne at this stage when it is mild. Too often, people take the "wait and see" approach, waiting to see if the acne will just go away on its own. Unfortunately, it usually doesn't. Very often the acne gets worse and progresses to a more severe case..This condition usually responds well to at-home treatments. Untreated acne usually lasts about 4-5 years before settling by itself. This shows typical, mild, acne on the forehead that almost all teenagers will get at some point. This usually fades with time or responds well to a simple cream like benzoyl peroxide, Retinoid, Azelaic acid, Salicyclic acid, Erythromycin, Metronidazole, Clindamycin in combination with other treatments. Home remedies are also effected on mild acne whereas, face gels are useful to eradicate moderate acne, whereas, dermatological treatment is required for severe acne.
You can also try other ways like applying sunscreen, not using harsh soaps with harsh hands and though it may be tempting to pick at acne, it can lead to secondary infection and scarring.
There are some oral treatments also.
You need to keep your diet balanced by eating more fruits and fewer junk foods.
You can also intake isotretinoin, tetracycline — such as minocycline or doxycycline — or a macrolide.
Effective treatments are available, but acne can be tenacious. The pimples and bumps heal slowly, and when one begins to go away, others seem to crop up. Depending on its austerity, acne can cause emotional distress and scar the skin. The earlier you start treatment, the lower your risk of such problems.
The responsibility is ours and we have to look after our skin. So…
LET THE SKIN BREATH!!!
