Well the first step to ensure your health is to check your weight. And the proper way to check it is to check your "BMI". You would be thinking what is it??Well, BMI means "Body Mass Index". It is a value which is derived from a human's weight and it's height. It is also known as "human mass". It tells that whether a person is under-weight, normal, over-weight or obese. Following are the estimates of each BMI:-
Below 18.5---- Underweight
18.5 to 24.9---- Normal (Perfect for balanced health and weight)
25.0 to 29.9---- Overweight
30.0 + ----- Obese
Now you would be thinking that how to keep ourselves normal? So I am here for you. Now what are the conditions that are associated with weight gain? The first and the most common cause of this weight gain is “Sedentary Lifestyle”. Well it means that your diet is not balanced and is against the diet pyramid. It simply means that you don’t take the nutrient according to their consumption limit and you take more fats and don’t exercise. This is what most people do. The second cause which is also linked with the first is metabolic disorder. It means that when your body starts producing too much “Cortisol” because of the diet imbalance, (cortisol is a steroid hormone which the body produces to regulate the body functions such as Metabolism), so the Metabolism disorder comes to notice which produces significant amount of weight gain.
Now there are some hormonal diseases which increase weight. Some of them would be highlighted here:-
Hypothyroidism. It is an under-active gland that cant produce enough hormone to keep the body working normally. Thus, it increases weakness and fatigue.
Next in female association is PCO. It stands for the initials for the “Polystic Ovary Syndrome” It increase the level of LH hormone and creates different problems for the women who suffer from it. This leads to significant weight gain, hirustism and Gynecological symptoms.
Now the last association.
Diabetes. Diabetes is a disease which is caused when there is an increase in blood sugar or blood glucose. Yet glucose is important for human body but too much of anything is good for nothing . This then deprives people of taking sweets and it requires them to take insulin. As I told before that being overweight or obese increases a person's risk for developing diabetes. Also, weight gain in people with type 2 diabetes makes them afflicted with a condition which is known as insulin resistance.
Following are some other complications which are caused by the weight gain:-
- · High Blood pressure.
- ·
Type 2 diabetes.
- ·
Heart disease and
strokes.
- ·
Certain types of cancer.
- ·
Sleep apnea.
- ·
Osteoarthritis.
- ·
Fatty liver disease.
- ·
Kidney disease.
It is our responsibility to look after ourselves. We should follow the proper diets and control our BMI.
Well friends, so that was it. One thing I would like to suggest you that don’t take the weight too light. Avoid sedentary lifestyle and go for your hormonal checkup. I will further come up in my upcoming blogs to discuss diseases highlighted above in detail so I could help you out how to live a healthy life along with your disease. JJJ
