GENERAL INTRODUCTION OF ECZEMA The terms 'eczema' and 'dermatitis' are synonymous. Eczema can be acute or chronic and there are several causes. Acutely, epidermal eodema (spongiosis) and intra-epidermal vesiculation(producing multilocular blisters) predominate, whereas with chronicity there is more epidermal thickening.
